#116: Marvel Legends (Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2) - Mantis

It took a while (not many people are selling Mantis parts on Ebay), but I finally got the rest of the pieces I needed to assemble Mantis. *insert obligatory grumbling about Mantis being a build a figure and not a regular carded release here* Anyway, as a major addition to the cast, I'm glad Mantis didn't have to wait a few years to get a figure. It's a nice looking figure, and the metallic green really catches the eye.

#113: Marvel Legends (Spider-Man Homecoming) - Vulture's Flight Gear

I finished collecting all theses pieces a little while ago, but I'm just now getting around to posting about it. Otherwise, I am almost completely caught up with my blogging, with only entries I purchased this month left to get to. So, the thing about the Vulture's wings is that they have a massive wingspan. There's no way they could have released this as a standard solo carded figure without coming up with a new pricepoint. So it does make some sense to have the wings be the build a figure for this series. I think this is the second version of the Vulture's wings, which he uses for the heist in the climax of the movie.

#112: Marvel Legends Series (12 inch) - Thor

It took a little longer to find Thor on sale than it did Hulk (and then of course, the day after I bought it, I found a better deal), but I finally did, and here he is. I think this is my favorite Thor figure. It's just really cool looking. And it has a soft goods cape that, due to the larger scale, actually looks good. There are two sets of hands: fists and gripping. There are two versions of Mjolnir: standard and partially translucent for lightning throwing action. Best of all, there are two heads: one bearded and one clean shaven. There are also two sets of hair: one for going bare headed, and one for the helmet. The hair slips on and off the heads, so you can choose for Thor to be in any combination of facial hair and helmet wearing that you'd like. I am on record as being both pro-beard and pro-awesome helmets, so that's how I'm displaying my Thor. There's even a loop on Thor's belt to hold Mjolnir.

#109: Marvel Legends (Thor Ragnarok) - Thor and Valkyrie

Valkyrie is one of the key new characters introduced in Ragnarok, so naturally the only way to get a figure of her is in a two pack. Thor is a retooled and repainted version of the solo release. He's got a bare head, less armor, and includes Heimdall's sword as well as a lightning effects piece (spoilers?). It's not a bad figure, and it's different, so your mileage may vary on whether it's different enough to make the double dipping acceptable. Valkyrie is the real star of this set, of course. She's a nice looking figure and comes with her cool sword as well as a scabbard. The scabbard doesn't properly attach to her, although it can tuck into her belt. It's not perfect, but it works.

#108: Marvel Legends Series (12 inch) - Spider-Man

Remember when Target started carrying the 12 inch Deadpool, only to clearance it out after seemingly a week? Well, they decided to get an exclusive 12 inch version of Spider-Man in his iconic black costume, then charge ten dollars more for no good reason and I still haven't seen it go on clearance. I'm not always the most patient toy buyer, but I was patient enough to wait for it to go on sale, which eventually it did. Basically, it's a straight repaint of the standard Spider-Man, with one less alternate head. This head is a new sculpt, as the eyes on this one are flat while the standard Spidey's head has eyes with rims. The alternate head is an unmasked Peter Parker with some tendrils of the symbiote reaching up. He also gets the same three sets of hands: fists, open, and thwip pose. Remember how I said this is a repaint and that the alternate head has the symbiote tendrils? That means that this figure has the web shooters sculpted on Spidey's wrists, which the symbiote didn't have. So you can ignore those and pretend this is the symbiote costume or ignore the alternate head and pretend this is the cloth version of the costume he wore after getting rid of the symbiote. I suppose if you're really upset by the shooters, you could sand them off. Me, I'm just going to ignore them.

#107: Marvel Legends Series (12 inch) - Hulk

It's the official release date for The Last Jedi, so here's a toy based on something else that Disney owns: the 12 inch scale Marvel Legends Hulk. The most obvious thing about this Hulk is that it's massive. So much that he is a more expensive price point than the other 12 inch scale figures. Fortunately, this is the best time of year to buy toys online, so I was able to get him for a much better than standard retail price. Unless you count Transformers as action figures (it's debatable), this is definitely the largest figure in my collection. He has two sets of hands: fists and open hands. There are also two heads: one with a more modern haircut featuring a scowl, and one with a more old fashioned bowl haircut featuring a yelling expression.

#93: Marvel Legends - Man-Thing

I have on a few occasions in the past thought about picking up the older Marvel Legends Man-Thing figure, but never did. Since the only figure from this series that I was kind of on the fence about buying was Bullseye, Man-Thing was enough of an incentive to buy him as well. I don't really know much about the character, although I do remember he was randomly living in the "Danger Arboretum" at the Massachusetts Academy in Generation X. Mainly, I'm just interested in the cool design.

#92: Marvel Legends (Jessica Jones) - Jessica Jones

While half of the figures in this series are from Daredevil, one other Netflix Marvel show gets representation with Jessica Jones. Usually when a character is just wearing street clothes, the only way their figure is available is as part of a multipack, like Mary Jane, Bruce Banner, Coulson, etc. But Jessica Jones gets a solo release, so kudos to Hasbro for showing some faith. It's a very nice figure, with a great Krysten Ritter likeness. My only complaint is that she doesn't have a scarf. Word on the street is that the scarf from Jyn Erso can, with some modification, make for a good substitute.

#91: Marvel Legends (Daredevil) - Elektra

Although only briefly teased during the first season of Daredevil, Elektra was a major player in the second season (yeah, there was a lot going on in the second season). Although I'm glad there is an Elektra figure, this was released before the Defenders series, and I kind of wish they had waited to make that version of her, because she was wearing a more comics inspired costume. But this figure is a good representation of her onscreen appearance. Armed with, of course, a pair of sai, Elektra also has an alternate unmasked head.

#90: Marvel Legends - Blade

Oddly enough, Blade was the first Marvel hero to really do well on the big screen, which helped usher in X-Men, Spider-Man, and ultimately the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie version of Blade did get a Marvel Legends figure years ago, and now here's a comic version of him. True to his name, Blade comes armed with a sword with a sheathe on his back, which is attached to a bandolier of stakes. He's ready to fight some vampires. His other accessory is an alternate head, which has a more Wesley Snipes feel to it.

#89: Marvel Legends - Bullseye

Bullseye is probably Daredevil's most iconic foe, so it makes sense to include him in a series featuring the Netflix version of him. But since he hasn't made an appearance in live action since the Ben Affleck movie, this is the comic version. It's a nice looking figure that's mostly a repaint of Spider-Man with the extra arm swivels. Where he really shines is the accessories. He has an alternate unmasked head which has a great maniacal yelling expression, as well as a pistol and a knife. His left hand has a cool knife throwing effect, and there are a couple alternate left hands: one for holding a gun, and one doing a pointing/finger gun gesture.

#87: Marvel Legends (Daredevil) - Daredevil

Daredevil is basically the foundation to the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So of course he gets a figure. Since he barely had his costume during the first season of the show, I'm just considering this a season two figure. I'm sure there were some differences between the two seasons that can positively identify this costume from which specific person, but I'm not that invested in the difference. For what it's worth, I think this costume looks better in action figure form than in TV form. As usual, Daredevil's baton can be split in two, and there's a holster on his leg for it. He also gets alternate fist hands to swap. An unmasked head would have been cool here, but I'm not complaining.

#85: Marvel Legends (Daredevil) - Punisher

Finally, a post that's (somewhat) timely! I got this figure a couple months ago, but the Punisher Netflix series just dropped a few days ago. I've been too busy playing the new Assassin's Creed to have watched it yet (not to mention being a week behind on my regular TV shows), but I hope to soon. Either way, this Punisher figure is based on his appearance in the second season of Daredevil. It's a nice looking figure, and he's got a pistol and rifle for accessories. When I opened this figure, the lower torso was rotated off center, so I thought the lower part of the skull marking was missing. I don't think that's ever happened to me before.

#84: Marvel Legends (Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2) - Star-Lord and Ego

Fun fact #1: You can get this set really cheap, for less than the price of a single figure, online these days. Fun fact #2: Since I'm super behind on blogging, this is a set I bought a few months ago, when it was new. So I paid full price for it. Yay! Since the set is the only way to get the Ego figure (hey, I wouldn't have minded if they gave him Ex Nihilo's spot in the regular release series), I bought it. It's a nice figure, a mini Kurt Russel ready for space adventures. There's an alternate head with a more stern expression. Otherwise, Ego has no accessories. There are three Star-Lord figures from Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2, but this is the only one I'm getting. The costume on this one is different enough from the first movie's, so I'm okay with that. Also, the Chris Pratt likeness on this one is light years beyond the first movie version. Star-Lord has an alternate masked head, his two blasters (which can hang off pegs on his hips), and a little black rectangle which I think is a Zune.

#83: Marvel Legends (Thor Ragnarok) - Hulk (build a figure)

Movie Hulk has previously been a regular single release, but gladiator Hulk gets extra accessories and armor, so he's a build a figure. Fair enough! Hulk is, naturally, pretty massive, and the crest on his removable helmet makes him even taller. He's got a big axe and hammer for any gladiatorial combat needs. Since I already have shredded pants Hulk and stretchy pants Hulk, I wouldn't have thought I would even want another movie Hulk. But put him in some armor, and I'm sold.

#82: Marvel Legends - Odinson

When Thor loses Mjolnir and therefore can't be called Thor any more, he has to fall back on his family name and just go by Odinson. Unless he's Marvel Cinematic Universe Thor, in which case he continues to be Thor. But this figure is comic Odinson. With has tattered cape and rope belt, he looks kind of like a hobo. No cool helmet or chest disks here. He does get a pretty large axe, though. Odinson isn't the most necessary figure for a collection, and I mostly got him for the build a figure piece, but he does look pretty cool at least.

#81: Marvel Legends - Thor

Marvel hasn't been shy lately about shaking up many of their major characters. Thor is one of those characters with a major change in the status quo, with the mantle of Thor and Mjolnir passing on to Jane Foster. This new Thor has been pretty popular, so we didn't have to wait too long for a figure of her. It's a really cool design, and probably your only chance to get a Jane Foster figure that isn't a Minimate. Thor naturally includes Mjolnir, and her cape is removable.

#80: Marvel Legends - Ares

One of the weird things about the Marvel universe is that it has both Norse and Greek (and others?) gods running around acting as superheroes or villains. He's been a Thor villain, so he's here for the Ragnarok series. I'm not really familiar with the character at all, and if not for the build a figure, I wouldn't have bought him. But he's a cool looking figure, and he can do double duty as an Ares for Wonder Woman to fight, since I didn't feel like building that figure. He's a huge figure, befitting a literal god, and he fits right in with the Asgardians. He's got a ridiculously oversized sword and axe, as well as a dagger that fits into a sheathe on his leg. Also his helmet is removable. His face has a dark wash on it to make it look more shadowed under the helmet, so he looks kind of weird without it.

#79: Marvel Legends (Thor Ragnarok) - Hela

The Hela figure poses quite a quandary for me. See, there are two interchangeable heads. One has this absolutely fantastically ridiculous headgear, while the other one is goth Cate Blanchett. I can't decide which one I like more. As the primary antagonist from Ragnarok, I am glad that Hela wasn't relegated to a store exclusive, 2 pack, or a build a figure. She turned out to be a cool figure. My only complaint is that the hip joint is kind of loose, but that's probably just an issue with my specific figure. Aside from the two heads, her cape is removable, and she has some crazy looking sword.

#78: Marvel Legends (Thor Ragnarok) - Loki

Back when the Avengers figures came out, the only six inch figures were exclusives, but at least we got a Loki. Both previous Thor movies only got smaller 3 and 3/4 inch figures, but Loki's back in the six inch scale for Ragnarok. While I still like his Avengers outfit the best, the one is cool too. Bonus points for it including the half helmet with trademark horns. The helmet and cape are removable, and those are the only accessories. There are pegs for the cape to plug into on his shoulders, but the one on the left side has been exceedingly uncooperative. But it stays on well enough. The lower part of the tunic is a separate piece, so it has a tendency to slide up on the torso.
