#78: Terminator Salvation T-600

This figure is huge. He's taller than even the recent General Grievous figure that is appropriately tall. He may seem out of scale, but that's not because of Playmates, it's because of the filmmakers. For whatever reason, the T-600 onscreen is too tall to pass for a normal human (which is what they were supposed to do, although the rubbery skin was mentioned in the first Terminator as betraying their identity, not their height) and the toy reflects that. I didn't really intend to pick up one of these because I think the sculpt looks a little soft. But Target had it on clearance for less than two dollars, so I took it. What it does have going for it is that it's a huge killer robot with a giant gun. It was definitely worth what I paid for it, and if you're at all interested, you may be able to find one on clearance as well.

#68: Terminator 2 Minimates T-800 and Endoskeleton

This was a birthday gift from my friend James. I'm not sure if they made Minimates for the new movie, but T2 is the best in the series, and that's what these are from. There's the T-800, which has a couple of guns it can use, an alternate ungloved pair of hands, and an alternate hairpiece without the attached sunglasses. I haven't been able to pry the hair off yet, so I'm not sure how it looks. I seem to recall the Terminator wearing black pants in the movie, but the Minimate version is wearing brown. Odd.

The other half of this set is the endoskeleton, which is pretty cool. For those keeping track, this is the third version of the Terminator endoskeleton in my collection. This one is definitely the cutest Terminator. The torso is molded from clear plastic with some details painted on, then with a separate chest piece over that. This is all to give it the appearance of the narrow waist that the endoskeletons have, and it is a pretty decent effort. The hands and the feet are unique pieces, they even captured the detail of the little heel on it. Nice attention to detail!

#55: Terminator Salvation T-1

One of the positive things that can be said of Terminator 3 is that it gave us the T-1, from which all Terminators are apparently descended. More akin to a tank than a human, this isn't something you'd want to run into in a dark alley. Or anywhere, really. The T-1 is part of the six inch line, for which it is curiously undersized. It works well with the 3 3/4 inch figures, though. It's a bit large to be sold as a 3 3/4 inch figure, so including it with the six inch line makes sense.

The T-1's articulation is limited to swiveling its rear wheels, its torso, and its guns back and forth, so it seems like it would be easy to avoid being shot by it by either crouching down, or perhaps going up on a balcony. Also, the ends of its guns shoot off, which is an odd move for a pair of machine guns. Clearly Skynet had a lot of improvement to make before it got to the T-800.

As I've mentioned before, I dig killer robots, and this is a cool addition to any mechanical army. An army of these would be cool, but they're not exactly clogging the shelves, so buy one when you see it if you want one.

#47: Terminator Salvation T-R.I.P. (6")

Although most of my toy collecting these days seems to be skewed towards the 3 3/4" scale, and despite the fact that I already have this figure in said scale, I picked up a six inch T-R.I.P. Of the two, I think I prefer this one. The sculpt is more detailed than its smaller brother, and its jaw looks better as well. Instead of two guns, this version has one of the guns that also comes with the smaller version, and a pipe. I still would prefer the rifle, but since the figure lacks wrist articulation, I don't know if it would be able to hold it properly anyway. At least the rifle isn't promised on the package this time around. It also has light piped eyes, which I dig. I'm hoping to pick up a T-1 if I find one, but for now, I am glad to be able to terrorize the rest of my figures with a killer robot in both the six inch and 3 3/4 inch scales.

#42: Terminator Salvation T-R.I.P.

If there's one thing I can appreciate, it is a story about homicidal robots. Clearly, Terminator is right up my alley. I am really looking forward to Terminator Salvation, so of course I want some little Terminators to add to my collection. This is the T-R.I.P. (resistance infiltrator prototype). Apparently it's a prototype of the T-800 model we all know and love, the one the Governator played in the first three movies.

First, I am going to complain. The packaging is particularly unattractive, with a purple and orange color scheme. On the back it spells John Connor two different ways. I don't keep the packaging, so that's not really a big deal. The box also claims that it comes with a "high tech rifle" but neither of the included guns is a rifle. They show it on the back of the box, but it's not there. This is kind of nit picking, but I think the sculpt of the jawline looks kind of wonky.

Other than all that, I rather like this figure. Jaw aside, it looks really good. I might have to do a little army building with these. Another cool thing is that this line is running about a dollar or so cheaper than other 3 and 3/4 inch lines out there, which is a nice respite.
