#65: X-Men Origins Wolverine Comic Series Iceman

It has been a couple months since I last bought a comic book based toy, and I finally found Iceman, which I've been trying to find for a while. Back in the early 90s, I had the Toy Biz Iceman figure, which is part of why I wanted to get this version. This one is more of a blue than the older one, but it's still pretty cool. It actually reminds me of the holographic figures from Star Wars. He comes with an ice slide, which is pretty cool, although some ice blasts for his hands would be nice too. Speaking of his hands, my only complaint is that his wrists are unarticulated. Overall, it's a cool figure, and I'm glad I finally found it.

#39: X-Men Origins Wolverine Comic Series Logan

One of the cool things about Wolverine is that he doesn't really have a secret identity. When out of costume, he's just Logan, and his real identity is still just as mysterious. Okay, I know that they explained his origins in the comics a couple years ago, but whatever. These were on sale at Target, so I decided to get a Logan figure, which I had been thinking about getting already. The sale won me over.

I had been thinking of possibly getting the movie version, but the head sculpt on it looked really soft and less detailed in comparison, so I went with the comic version. Although it is the comic version, his claws appear to be coming from between his fingers like in the movie, rather than from the backs of his hands like in the comics. One of the things I really like about this figure is that I can swap its head with my other Wolverine figure, and make it an unmasked Wolverine.

Of the nine figures in the comic series from this line, five of them are some version of Wolverine. I'm not a fan of the Weapon X (which is too bad, if it had turned out better, I would have bought one) or the "Strike Mission" versions. I might get the yellow and blue costume version, though.

#38: X-Men Origins Wolverine Comic Series Gambit

When I think of the X-Men, I think of them as they were in the early 90s. This is the period of their Saturday morning cartoon on Fox, and the blue and gold teams in the comics. Basically, the Jim Lee X-Men. Gambit was one of the prominent characters at the time, so I dig him. Since the Marvel Universe line so far is not prominently featuring mutants, the Wolverine movie line is getting some of the mutant characters. Since Gambit appears in the movie, he gets a figure, in his comic style. Although his staff was bent by the packaging, and his ankles and wrists are unarticulated, this is all you could hope for from this Cajun. He even comes with some playing cards charged with kinetic energy.

I always wondered about Gambit's costume. It's a very comic book looking outfit, but covered up by a long overcoat. Is that what he wore in his Thieves' Guild days? And what's up with his eyes? That's probably Mr Sinister's fault.

#34: X-Men Origins Wolverine Comic Series Deadpool

Apparently, I am only interested in the comic book versions of characters from the upcoming Wolverine movie. I may pick up a movie version of Logan, but when it comes to Deadpool I am going to stick with the classic. The movie version of Deadpool is just... Well, he's three miles of bad road. It's along the same lines as the movie version of Cobra Commander. Bad news.

This Deadpool, however, is great. The Deadpool we all know and love is right here, loaded with weapons. Two swords, a giant sai, an AK-47, and a handgun. A couple complaints, though. I think that his swords look a little high up on his back while they're in their sheaths. Also, the ball/swivel hip articulation isn't my favorite style of articulation for hips. I'd prefer the DCUC style hip articulation.

Deadpool may not look like this in the movie, but if they give him that spinoff movie, maybe he'll look more true to his comic from then. Here's hoping!

#32: X-Men Origins Wolverine Comic Series Wolverine

Currently, there are three Marvel lines running right now that are in the same scale, and two of them have Wolverine in the name. If there was any doubt about how popular this little Canadian is, that should put it to rest. This Wolverine is from the movie line, which is divided into a comic series (which this figure is from), and a movie series. This is the costume I was first familiar with for Wolverine, and it has stayed my favorite. Unlike more recent Wolverine figures, his claws aren't each a separate piece of plastic. Instead they are one piece that is sculpted and painted to give the illusion of being three claws. He also comes with the red Muramasa sword, which isn't the most exciting accessory he could come with, but at least it is something that makes sense for him. This is the first Wolverine figure I've had since I was a kid, and I'm glad to have it.
