#31: Hot Wheels - The Dark Knight Batmobile (228/250)

I'm glad Mattel likes to re-issue Batmobiles because I never got a regular version of the Tumbler. I have the Dark Knight Rises version with desert camo, but that's way less cool looking than black. When they re-issue vehicles, they tend to slightly alter coloring, presumably to differentiate releases. So this version has red rings on the wheels, as well as red tinted windows. That's obviously not true to screen, but I can live with that kind of difference.

#20: The Dark Knight - Hot Toys DX 11 The Joker 2.0

I did it, I finally took the plunge. Here is my first ever Hot Toys figure, Heath Ledger as the Joker from The Dark Knight. Hot Toys figures have always been a draw because they have such lifelike headsculpts, as well as highly accurate outfits and accessories. Unfortunately they are also really expensive. Ultimately, I decided that since the latest version of the Joker would be released around tax time, that maybe it would be a cool way to use my refund.

#56: The Dark Knight - Movie Masters Harvey Dent

My most anticipated film of the year, The Dark Knight Rises, has just been released in theaters. Let's talk about a toy from its predecessor, The Dark Knight! Mainly I bought this because it was cheap on Amazon, and as a way to get my order up to the minimum for free shipping. I already have the Movie Masters Two-Face, and this is yet another guy in a suit figure, but I thought it would be nice to have a regular Aaron Eckhart figure to contrast with the Two-Face version.

Also, Harvey comes with an accessory: his lucky two sided coin. The Two-Face figure comes with the scarred version (which I'm wary of using because the wear on the scarred side chips off so easily), but the standard version is pretty cool and was a nice selling point for me.

#111: The Dark Knight Scarecrow

When this figure went on sale during one of the monthly Mattycollector.com snafus, I thought about trying to order one. In the end, I didn't like the figure enough to pay 20 bucks or whatever it would have come out to. But for five bucks at Toys R Us, this was an easy decision. The first movie Scarecrow had him sporting a straitjacket. I liked the mask and suit look better, so that's the version I wanted to get. Until Mattel gets around to doing an updated comic style Scarecrow, this one is pretty cool. Like the other figures in the six inch Movie Masters line, he comes with a piece of "evidence" which in this case is his mask. It's too big for him, but perhaps it would fit on a 12 inch figure decently. I'd rather he came with a more useful accessory for the toy, perhaps a fear gas emitting suitcase. He's got the usual guy in a suit articulation that the line uses, and it works well. Oddly enough, he isn't wearing a tie. Instead, he has a sort of brooch or something. I'm not sure what's up with that. Maybe it is accurate to his onscreen costume, but I'd have to check.

#46: The Dark Knight Two-Face

Remember a couple years ago when The Dark Knight came out? Remember how there was a five inch line, and a more collector oriented line of six inch figures? They are still putting out figures for that line, and so we finally get Two-Face! The more recent figures were going to be a Mattycollector.com exclusive, but ended up being a shared exclusive with Toys R Us. I happened to have the day off on Matty's May sale date, so I decided to order a Two-Face, figuring it wouldn't sell out instantly, like the MOTUC figures. It took five minutes of the dreaded reload screen before I could add the figure to my cart, then a few more before I could complete the checkout. But I got the figure I wanted, so I was happy. Then I realized that the Toys R Us website was also selling Two-Face. For less (and they don't gouge customers on shipping as much as Matty does). So I quickly ordered one from Toys R Us and sent Matty an e-mail request to cancel my order. Fortunately it got through in time to stop my order before it had shipped. I've heard horror stories about customer service with the company that handles Matty's sales, but my experience was good at least.

The figure itself is pretty okay. The facial likeness isn't perfect, but it's there. Alas, there is a misassembled part. The lower part of the right bicep is on backwards. Because of this, his arm won't bend as far forward as the other one will, but it's not something that is too easily noticeable unless you're really looking. You can tell by looking because the arm doesn't line up right, and the seam on the sleeve is on the wrong side. It may be something that can be fixed, but I'm not sure if I want to mess around with popping limbs apart. Ideally, he would include a gun and a coin, but he doesn't have any accessories in his own scale. Instead, we get this:

A life-sized double sided coin, just like Harvey's in the movie. This is a pretty cool pack in. The Two-Face figure for Batman Forever came with a similar coin, but this one is much cooler looking. This has been appropriately weathered so that it looks like it has been through a lot. Unfortunately, some of the weathering on the defaced side is starting to peel off, you can see the big bright spot on the picture. Other than that, it's cool.
